Our Mission

 

The Fiddle Legacy Foundation preserves, shares, and carries forward traditional fiddle music by connecting generations through education, live events, archival preservation, and storytelling. We create opportunities for young musicians, digitize and safeguard historic recordings and materials, and document the lives and music of influential fiddlers through the Fiddle Legends podcast, ensuring the tradition remains accessible, understood, and alive for generations to come.

Our Work

 

We create welcoming opportunities for young musicians to learn, perform, and grow through workshops, mentorship, community events, and the annual Portland Youth Fiddle Contest. Our programs encourage musicianship, friendship, good sportsmanship, and a lifelong connection to traditional fiddle music.

Digital Preservation

  

Historic fiddle music is often trapped on aging cassettes, VHS tapes, home videos, photographs, and personal recordings. We digitize and preserve these irreplaceable materials so the music, teaching, humor, stories, and personal styles of past generations are not lost.

Fiddle Legends Podcast

  

 

The Fiddle Legends podcast documents the lives, music, and memories of influential fiddlers and culture-bearers. Through long-form interviews and archival recordings, listeners hear the history of fiddle music directly from the people who lived it.

Portland Youth Fiddle Contest

 

The annual Portland Youth Fiddle Contest welcomes fiddlers age 18 and under, from first-time contestants to advanced players. Young musicians share tunes, support one another, receive feedback from experienced judges, and help carry a living musical tradition into the future.
